Claude A. Simard was born in Quebec City in 1943. He is a full professor at Laval University. He received his training at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto from 1962 to 1966 and later studied in France, Switzerland, Denmark and the Netherlands. He was elected a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Art in 1983, the same year he has created five historical murals for the Canadian Parks Service’Interpretation Center at Fort Chambly. He designed a series of three Christmas stamps for Canada Post in 1983 and a series of four Christmas stamps in 1987. In 1991, he presented a special exhibition at the Orangerie of the Chateau Bagatelle in Paris, France.
