Philippe Richard was born in L'Assomption, Québec, on September 26th, 1947. From the age of twelve, he learned of the principles in the art of painting. After completing his first degree in Fine Arts, he was awarded the degree of Licen se in French Literature. He then completed a course in audio-visual aids (majoring in Graphic Arts) and, further, studied at the School of Fine Arts in Montréal. Today, Philippe Richard find most of his inspiration in the Lanaudière region. He likes to include peoples and most particularly children in his rural and urban scenes. Philippe Richard's paintings imbued with a certain tranquillity, capture a story from ordinary life. It might be an intimate view of a farm interior, the quietude of an unfrequented lane or the serenity of a village steeple.
