Born in Cuels close to Saint-Tropez in France in 1935, Marc Chatelle moved to Montreal when he was 20 years old. He became a journalist and worked at Quebec's biggest weekly magazines, eventually assuming the direction of several: la Patrie, le Petit Journal, Point de Mire, Le Samedi … In 1980, Pierre Péladeau assigned Marc Chatelle to direct Échos Vedettes, a responsibility he held for seventeen years, up until his retirement. To honour his departure, a paint box was offered to him. It was the beginning of a new career. The naïve styles of his paintings are sly winks to the artistic world, and are on exhibition in several galleries. In 2004, Marc Chatelle was one of the masterminds of the first edition of “Une exposition d'art pas comme les autres”.
