Geneviève Jost

Genevieve Jost was born in 1944 in Compiegne (France) where her father was a forester. From her first contact with life she has enjoyed a deep love for nature which has found sustenance in Quebec (Canada) where she has resided since 1967. The serenity she has experienced through different particular dimensions of the landscape, have led her toward an unceasing exploration of spareness in her paintings, thus following in the footsteps of primitive American painters whom she admires and feels a close affinity for. The main inspiration for Jost's style is the simplicity of everyday life. She paints with acrylic and oil on wood, panel or canevas, with flat tint and wash. Genevieve Jost has had several solo exhibitions in Canada, in the United States, in Belgium and in Switzerland.
